Firmware Engineer – Drivers and Application

Job Description

Portsmith Technologies is looking for an experienced Firmware Engineer to join our Mobile Computing Accessories team. At Portsmith Technologies, the firmware development team is responsible for designing and implementing drivers, applications and embedded firmware. These solutions deliver the most advanced, trouble free solutions to our customers.
Due to growth and demand, Portsmith Technologies is expanding and is currently seeking an engineer with strong firmware development experience. The selected candidate will be focused on development for new products in addition to maintaining and improving existing solutions in the current product line.

Current developments are primarily written in C and C++. The selected candidate will work closely with our creative, mechanical, hardware, and marketing teams to design and implement innovative and, cost-effective mobile computing accessories products.

Primary Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Firmware Engineer include but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Learn the current Portsmith Technologies product line and become familiar with the firmware and operation of the equipment.
  • Add new product features and develop new product offerings by defining requirements, documenting design, implementing and integrating firmware.
  • Systematically troubleshoot firmware issues and implement solutions.
  • Optimize performance and scalability as necessary to meet technology and business goals.
  • Document and perform unit validation test plans.
  • Participate in design and code reviews.
  • Implement designs in both C and C++, or other appropriate languages.
  • Investigate new ways to solve problems or create products with a focus on cost effectiveness and simplicity for the end user.
  • Provide input, maintenance and support on all assigned team projects.
  • 10. Understanding of driver integration into Win Mobile/Win CE OS including dll creation, installation file creation and registry modification as well as knowledge of PPP and TCP/IP knowledge.

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with C and C++, Windows Mobile, Windows CE.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments and debugging tools.
  • Design experience with a wide variety of handheld mobile devices.
  • Demonstrated experience developing projects on embedded systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and knowledge of Electronic Hardware a plus.
  • Experience with Windows Phone 7, Android and Apple iOS a plus.
  • Experience with USB (device and host) communication protocols.
  • Linux kernel and device driver experience a plus.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills with Protocol Analyzers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

What you need for this position

  • 5+ years of Firmware Development experience.
  • Previous driver development Experience with Windows Mobile & Windows CE
  • Experience designing and implementing event-driven real-time firmware solutions using C/C++ and with Visual Studio 2010 is Preferred.
  • Must have Firmware/System debug skills using debugger and protocol analyzer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, further education considered a plus.
